How to get rid of NetworkManager

If, for some reason, you would like to get rid of the NetworkManager under Ubuntu:

(Maybe because like me, you're a control freak and you prefer to do it the old fashion way)

  • systemctl stop NetworkManager
  • systemctl disable NetworkManager
  • Remove the symbolic link /etc/resolv.conf
  • Create a simple file /etc/resolv.conf instead

Example resolv.conf:

search intra.lab
nameserver 192.168.1.7
nameserver 8.8.8.8

  • Edit the file /etc/network/interfaces

Example interfaces file:

auto lo
iface lo inet loopback
auto enp5s0
iface enp5s0 inet static
	address 192.168.1.100
	netmask 255.255.255.0
	gateway 192.168.1.1
  • ifdown enp5s0
  • ifup enp5s0
